Tower of Refuge Refurbishment

Storm Proof Ergonomic Lighting
During my summer placement at the Manx Government, I had the honour of contributing towards the restoration of the Tower of Refuge. A prominent local landmark designed by Royal National Lifeboat Institution founder Sir William Hillary in 1832. My brief was to develop flexible lighting solutions to withstand the extreme local storms.

To accomplish this the lighting was mounted on a solid beam with a chain-driven automated pulley to drive the lighting along the beam. Allowing the operator to safely change the lamp without hanging out over the side.
